Signs of Heart Disease

August 25th, 2010

Experts have cited certain signs of heart disease in order for people  to have at least some idea on what to expect if one has acquired a heart  disease. People are then warned to watch out for these signs and if  one found some of them, must immediately see a doctor and undergo some examinations to see if he has a heart problem.

Since there are many types of heart disease, the signs of heart disease of each kind would vary. But there are common and basic signs that would work and apply to all types of heart disease. One common sign of  heart disease is Angina which is described as the pain felt in one’s chest. It is often referred as the burning and squeezing in the heart. It  comes from the root word Agina or chest pain which is brought about when the heart muscle is no longer receiving enough blood. It is not just isolated in the chest but the pain may also be felt in the shoulders, neck, jaw, and arms.

Another common sign of heart disease is shortness of breath. It usually  happens when the blood backs up in the pulmonary veins. This often  leads to the leaking of fluid into one’s lungs. This situation often  occurs while the person is asleep and that would make the person feel  uncomfortable because of the shortness of breath. A person who experiences  this is advised not to lie flat but to elevate the upper body.

One of the signs of heart disease is Edema or the building up excessive  fluid into the body tissues. Instead of the blood flow directly to the  heart, the blocked tissues would not allow for it that is why the  blood that is supposed to lead to the heart then builds up in the tissues.

Some other signs of heart disease are tiredness and fatigue. These  situations usually happen when the heart does not properly pump in blood to  all parts of the body due to the clogged up body tissues. Instead of  sending blood to the vital organs blood is rather directed to less  important body organs or parts.

If at any time you notice any of these signs or symptoms of heart  disease, you need to make an appointment to see your doctor for as soon as  you possibly can, so that you can go in for a full examination and have  a proper assessment and diagnosis. After all, only after you have been  properly diagnosed can you really get yourself on the road to  treatment.

Hypertensive Heart Disease

August 3rd, 2010

The kind of heart disease that is considered dangerous is the  hypertensive heart disease. It is brought about by the prolonged elevation of  blood pressure. Such phenomenon could often lead to the changes of the  myocardial structure, coronary vasculature, and the heart’s conduction system.

Experts discovered that severe hypertension would often lead to the  dilatation of the aortic root. This situation is believed to be the cause of an aortic insufficiency.

The hypertensive heart disease, when turned into a complication, is often the cause of a heart failure. But it would always be hard to discover the relation of both since when the heart failure happens, the LV  which is no longer working is shown to be unable to generate high blood  pressure.

People who have been diagnosed to have hypertensive heart disease all  have common factors such as aging, systolic dysfunction, structural fibrosis, as well as coexistent coronary artery disease.

Treating hypertensive heart disease is never that easy. It is so  complicated that the patient will have to choose from the wide array of  complex treatments for this disease. The doctor could choose the best  treatment for the patient. One option is the non-medicinal treatment for  hypertensive heart disease. This means that there is no medicine prescribed by the doctor for the patient to take. Rather, he will just have to  follow the instruction made by the doctor such as the restriction of dietary sodium, doing regular exercise, smoking and drinking cessation as well as maintaining a tolerable weight. But another option that the  doctor could suggest is the medicinal treatment which will prescribe the  right medicine aimed to normalize and control the systolic and diastolic  blood pressure. There are just so many medicines that are designed to  manage blood pressure control.

A person who has been diagnosed with hypertensive heart disease must  make sure to visit and discuss things with the doctor as this would be  the indicator if the patient is doing something to treat the disease. One  can also be assured that he or she will only expect positive results  if he get to strictly follow the medicinal requirements without failure. Also, the patient must match the medication and treatment with a  healthy lifestyle as this would truly help the patient stay healthy and away  from complications. This would mean that the patient will eat the  right, healthy food, do a regular exerice, stay away from bad habits like  smoking and drinking, and making sure that the desired measures would be  followed.

Animated Heart Attack

July 27th, 2010

An interesting 3d medical animation shows a heart attack resulting from atherosclerosis, which is inflammation of an artery. It was designed to be an immersive experience to hold the viewer’s interest in this complex, slow-developing process. Every shot was conceptualized as a visual effect to evoke the sensation of a journey within a dynamic and diverse environment. Beginning with the probable cause, which is damage to the endothelial wall, the story progresses in detail through the stages of atherosclerosis concluding with the resulting damage to the heart.

Surgery for Rheumatic Heart Disease

July 13th, 2010

Often hits children between five to fifteen years old, rheumatic heart disease is a disorder that is caused by rheumatic fever which is  responsible of damaging the heart valves. It is an inflammatory disease that  hits most of the body tissues and other important parts of the heart, brain, and joints.

A person may be diagnosed with a rheumatic fever  after discovering a strep throat infections that has stayed for more than a week already.  But experts claimed that not everyone who suffers strep throat are  automatically threatened to acquire rheumatic heart disease.

Some of the important signs of rheumatic heart disease are not easily  recognized that is why late detection of the disorder would often lead  to life-threatening problems.

Once the doctor has found that a person is positive to have a rheumatic  heart disease, he is then advised to undergo a surgery for rheumatic  heart disease. One is required for a surgery for rheumatic heart disease  in order for the person to alter and reduce valve insufficiency when  some medications and therapies are being required to the patient. A  surgery for rheumatic heart disease could be the mitral valve repair which  is designed to address the concerns of a patient suffering from a  chronic rheumatic mitral valve disease.

The call for a surgery for rheumatic heart disease is only applied to  patients who have complex cases which needs advanced technology to  repair some damaged valves. Since this disease hits children, that makes any  surgery for rheumatic heart disease so difficult to handle especially  that children could hardly handle complicated surgeries.

But not everyone who have acquired rheumatic heart disease are advised  to under a surgery for rheumatic heart disease. Instead, they will be  observed on how they are fairing so far and how strong the body system  is despite the onset of such disease. But the best preventive measure  against rheumatic heart disease is to avoid getting a rheumatic fever. It  would be best to immediately treat strep throat with some antibiotics  or penicillin. It would also be good to immediately see a doctor in order to have him help you find the best way to avoid the worsening of the  situation.

But it must be noted that people who frequently suffers from rheumatic  fever are mostly likely the ones who will develop rheumatic heart  disease if untreated or never consulted a doctor. This must encourage  everyone to seriously think of a surgery for rheumatic heart disease.

Rather, it is advised that everyone must be interested in learning information on heart disease because nobody would know who will suffer this disease later on. The best way to prevent and avoid the  disease is by learning some information on heart disease.

One of the basic information on heart disease is its nature and how it  is considered not just a single condition of the heart but all the  other heart failure. Thus, it is termed as the disorder of any of the parts  of the cardiovascular system that is not just composed by the heart  but all the blood vessels, veins, and other parts that are connected to the whole system.

Another basic information on heart disease that people should know is  how such disease is acquired or how it is caused. By knowing such, you could be aware of not engaging on some of the risk factors which are  believed to be the major cause of the disease.

But another important information on heart disease is that not all of  its types are developed later in life. Rather, there is a type called  congenital heart disease that is developed the moment the baby was born. This can hardly be controlled because it comes along by birth. On the other hand, acquired type of heart disease are those that are developed  in a person. Acquired forms can be prevented and controlled by simply  following the suggested tips of medical experts.

Risk Factor for Coronary Heart Disease

May 14th, 2010

Coronary heart disease is one of the common types of heart disease and  is considered one of the leading causes of heart attack. This disease  is brought about by the shortage of blood supply that passes through the  arterial veins which are now filled or built up by fatty acids. Such  blockage often leads to the narrowing of the vessels and thus result to  the reduction of blood supply to the heart muscles. Such phenomenon is  called Angina.

One should then learn the risk factors for coronary heart disease in  order to avoid acquiring coronary heart disease. High cholesterol is  pointed as one of the risk factors for coronary heart disease. Studies  would show that people from other countries would differ in cholesterol  levels. In Japan, as an example, it was found that there are very few  people who have had coronary heart disease because most people have  maintained low cholesterol level.

Another risk factor for coronary heart disease is smoking. However, one  that does not smoke but still inhale smoke from cigarette and tobacco  could possibly take twice the chance of getting such disease. But for a  person who is able to quit smoking for five years is believed to  reduce his chance from getting this disease.

These are but some of the risk factors for coronary heart disease. But  for anyone to know if he has acquired this disease, the person must  undergo a coronary angiography. This is one machine that would tell how is  the blood flowing through the heart through the use of special dye and  x-rays. The procedure is usually done with a sedative before  undergoing the entire procedure in order for the patient to feel relaxed.

But anyone can get rid or prevent these risk factors for coronary heart  disease by simply living a healthy lifestyle. This is considered the  best prevention method, although, it would require one much discipline  and responsibility to successfully follow the lifestyle. This would  require the patient to be extra-careful on the food to eat and at the same  time be vigilant in spending just a single hour for a physical  activity. This way, the person will have the stamina to do healthier things  rather than simply sleeping or lying down.

Getting rid of these risk factors for coronary heart disease is one  effective way to saty healthy and away from the dangers and hassles of  coronary heart disease.

Hereditary Heart Disease

May 7th, 2010

Hereditary heart disease is the type of disease that is being acquired through genes. Unlike the other types, the hereditary heart disease is  unavoidable and unpreventable because any member of the family that has  a heart problem will most likely mean that any relative down the  family line could acquire the disease.

Studies claimed that if first-degree relatives like your mother, father, or sister  has a history of heart disease, it would then be very risky for you to also have the same disease.

Although hereditary heart disease may not be controlled in the hands of  the person, but there are some factors that may be avoided. If heart  disease is so common in the family, it could possibly because the family  applies an unhealthy lifestyle. Thus, it would be best to get rid of  such lifestyle by giving up smoking, drinking liquor, and many other activities that may lead t a hereditary heart disease.

Even if you have a family member that acquires such disease, this should not bug you seriously especially when experts claimed that there is a way in stopping the cycle. This can be done by making sure that  everybody in the family eat healthy diet, do a regular physical activity, and getting rid of unhealthy habits like smoking and drinking.

Even if you can hardly choose your genes, there is still so many ways  to avoid hereditary heart disease. One is the kind of lifestyle that you choose. Strictly following the medication recommended by the doctor  would also help you lower your risk from getting and acquiring a hereditary heart disease.

But one kind of hereditary heart disease is the familial  hypercholesterolaemia, a case that gives a high total cholesterol level in the family genes. Even if the person is not much eating food that cause a rise in  cholesterol level, there would still be a big possibility that the some family members will acquire hereditary heart disease because of the  familial hypercholesterolaemia. If a member of the family is diagnosed  with this disease, it would be advisable that all the other members of  the family must have their cholesterol level be checked as well in order  to have it treated as early as possible.

Hereditary heart disease may be considered an incontrollable type but any person can do away with it as long as he maintains a healthy  lifestyle and make sure that the risk factors are not tolerated and practiced. This will not just protect one from getting a hereditary heart disease  but also other diseases.
